The penultimate day of the 2026 European Senior Fencing Championships saw two more team titles awarded in Antony, with Italy capturing Women's Foil gold and Hungary continuing its remarkable dominance in Men's Sabre.
Italy Returns to the Top in Women's Foil
Italy claimed the Women's Foil team title after defeating hosts France in the gold medal match. The experienced quartet of Martina Batini, Anna Cristino, Arianna Errigo and Martina Favaretto once again demonstrated why Italy remains one of the strongest nations in the weapon.
For Arianna Errigo, the gold medal adds another chapter to one of the most decorated careers in fencing history. After narrowly missing out on the individual title earlier in the week, the Italian legend helped lead her team to European glory and added yet another major team title to her extraordinary collection.
France, represented by Pauline Ranvier, Eva Lacheray, Ysaora Thibus and Anita Blaze, delighted the home crowd throughout the day before ultimately finishing with silver.
The bronze medal went to Ukraine. Fresh from Olga Sopit's historic individual gold medal earlier in the week, the Ukrainian team of Alina Poloziuk, Kristina Petrova, Olga Sopit and Dariia Myroniuk continued their impressive championship campaign by securing a place on the podium.
Hungary Extends Sabre Dynasty
The Men's Sabre final brought together two teams with a long history. Hungary and Romania had already met in the European Championship final two years ago, and once again they produced a closely contested battle for gold.
Romania arrived hoping to capture its first European team title in the weapon in twenty years. Led by George Dragomir, Vlad Covaliu, Radu Nitu and Razvan Ursachi pushed the defending champions all the way.
In the end, however, Hungary's experience proved decisive. The quartet of Krisztian Rabb, three-time Olympic champion Aron Szilagyi, Andras Szatmari and Benedek Dallos secured victory to claim a third consecutive European team title, further cementing Hungary's status as the dominant force in European men's sabre.
The bronze medal went to France, whose team of Jean-Philippe Patrice, Sebastien Patrice, Remi Garrigue and Maxime Pianfetti secured a place on the podium with a strong performance throughout the competition.
