Georgina Usher
Georgina Usher has dedicated most of her life to fencing as an elite athlete, leader, and advocate for safe and inclusive sport. Representing Great Britain for over 20 years, she is one of the country’s most successful women’s épée fencers, with ten national titles, Commonwealth gold, World Cup medals, and participation in eleven Senior World Championships. She is also a two-time Veteran World Champion, as well as a qualified coach and national-level referee, giving her deep insight into athlete development, performance, and welfare.
Alongside her sporting career, Georgina moved into governance and leadership, becoming an elected Board Member of British Fencing and later its Chief Executive in 2014. As CEO, she led a major modernisation of the organisation, strengthening governance, participation, financial sustainability, and embedding safeguarding and inclusion. Her work includes impactful partnerships such as the Muslim Girls Fence initiative, promoting diversity and social inclusion through sport. In recognition of her services, she was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2022.
Internationally, Georgina has served on the FIE Women and Fencing Council since 2012 and has played a leading role within the FIE and EFC in developing safeguarding policy and education. An IOC Safeguarding in Sport graduate, she has regularly acted as Safeguarding Officer at major championships and was appointed Chair of the EFC Safeguarding Commission in 2024. From 2019 to 2025, she also served as a Board Director of the British Olympic Association.
